Michael Stanley provides a useful overview of the key themes and teachings in Swedenborg's works. The Introduction and opening chapter offer a biography and summary of Swedenborg's ideas respectively, subsequent chapters then go on to illustrate these ideas in greater depth with quotations from Swedenborg's works, tied together by Stanley's commentary. Some of the themes covered are the Divine Nature, man's nature, rebirth, sexuality and the spiritual ages of mankind. Michael Stanley, M.Sc, Ph.D, was born in England in 1936. His early career in physics brought him to Columbia University, New York, and then he was called to the ministry. He was Principal of New Church College (Swedenborgian), where he taught philosophy, psychology, and comparative religion. He has lectured widely in the UK, as well as in Australia and the United States.
